Galerie Wendi Norris (161 Jessie St., San Francisco) presents two exhibits; Miguel Angel Rios' A Trilogy And Val Britton's Transmissions. Both open with an reception 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, April 28, 2016.

A Trilogy is Rios' first solo exhibition with the gallery. Three of the artist's most recent videos will be shown: Piedras Blancas, Mulas and Landlocked. Rios was known for his paintings and collages but moved to video. These pieces are site specific and related to land-art. His work challenges and alters the tradition approach to representing landscape. Related works: paintings, works on paper, photos and drawings will also be part of the exhibit.

Transmissions is Britton's second solo exhibit with the gallery and features new large printed collages and a suspended paper installation (these are the artist's first free-standing sculptural work). The pieces are colorful and use cut out sections (both laser and hand cut). Her work channels both the terrestrial and celestial worlds.

Kamolpan Chotvichai is the subject of a solo exhibit at Sundaram Tagore Chelsea (547 West 27th Street NYC). There will be an artist reception and book  signing from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 28.

Chotvichai is an emerging artist, based in Bangkok, who addresses identity and gender issues based on self-portraits. She hand cuts images of her body into strops, stripping away physical form and relinquishing attachment to the body in the process.

Her work comes about via
numerous steps. She sketches each composition and then translates these into photographs. She then distorts the image before printing and mounting. She then uses a utility knife to slice parts of the canvas into the previously mentioned strips. With these strips she then makes the images three dimensional.

Chotvichai has a MA in fine arts from Silpakorn University (Bangkok). She was featured in a recent survey of Thai art at Saatchi Gallery (London).
