Garrett was born in North Carolina and raised in Pennsylvania. Curiously she first trained to be a dancer which the artist says "informs her work to this day." You can read her bio and see her work HERE.

Wolf Kahn's Paintings Shown By Jerald Melberg Gallery (Charlotte) At Art Miami New York 20156/17/2015 These pieces by Wolf Kahn were show by Jerald Melberg Gallery (Charlotte) at Art Miami New York 2015. We've posted work by Kahn many times before, especially work shown by Jerald Melberg.
Kahn is a German-born, American-based artist most known for his luminous landscapes. He studied with the great Hans Hoffman. There may be no landscape artist alive today creating works as startlingly beautiful as these. His style is also instantly recognizable and unique. KM Fine Arts (Chicago) showed work by Bernie Taupin and Dana Louise Kirkpatrick at Art Miami New York 2015. Taupin is that Taupin. He wrote the lyrics for such songs as: Levon, Daniel, Your Song and many others (we will forgive him for writing the lyrics to We Built This City). This piece consists of newspaper, aerosol glue, acrylic and wax on canvas. Kirkpatrick's pieces below use a variety of media--paint, charcoal (in the upper piece pastel), newspaper etc. They are culture bending and iconic but maybe a little iconoclastic as well. We can appreciate Kirkpatrick totally based on her are since she is not responsible (to my knowledge) for any pop songs whatever. Find out more about Kirkpatrick HERE. See more from Taupin HERE. Galerie Ernst Hilger (Vienna/Jersey City) showed this piece, Happiness, by Damien Hirst at Art Miami New York 2015. You almost have to love a work that juxtaposes butterflies, polka dots and syringes. There is an optimism to the piece...or is there? A syringe, of course, can be an instrument of salvation or addiction. This piece has something of an "what you bring to it" vibe. Licht Feld (Basel) showed work by Marck and Hubert Kretzschmar at Art Miami New York 2015. The gallery has shown both of these artists in Miami over the years so it is fitting they showed them at what will, apparently, be the only year of Art Miami New York before the name change. Marck's videos are provocative in their juxtaposing social iconography and in many cases they are just aesthetically attractive. You want to look at them. Fans of 70s electronic music won't need to ask the name of the piece by Kretzschmar (others may, it is titled Klaus Nomi). Galerie Frank Pages (Geneva/Baden-Baden) showed work by Jamie Diamond, Hebru Brantley and Hossein Edalatkhah at Art Miami New York 2015. Diamond's work, of babies heads--or are they doll's heads?-- are vaguely disturbing. Forevermore Creations Nursery--Pessolino Jesus and Whispering Lullaby Nursery--Verrochio Jesus are the titles of these two archival pigment prints. Brantley's work is often mass produced--like Romero Britto. This is irritating to some? But art is a job and when an artist makes money everyone should applaud. The piece below, MUSE (MODERN), shows the fine art side of the young artist. Edalatkhah's work looks like Middle Eastern tile...except for the penises. Usually such tile does not feature penises. These are provocative work in its juxtaposition. It is also a piece that, from a distance, you might be attracted to before you see the details. Find out more about Brantley HERE. Find out more about Edalatkah HERE. Fifty Shades of Blue him by Hossein Edalatkhah
Peter Blake Gallery (Laguna Beach) Showed Work By Matthew Deleget At Art Miami New York 20156/15/2015 Peter Blake Gallery showed work by Matthew Deleget at Art Miami New York 2015. These pieces, entitled, Third World Democracy, channel the works of post-World War II artists from war-torn nations. For those artists the destruction literally moved onto the canvas and into the art. I have no idea if these same sort of notions were in Deleget's mind but our world certainly might inspire these torn up works. Deleget's work is not ALL of this sort, there is a great deal of variety in his painting. You can see more at his website, matthewdeleget.com. Long-Sharp Gallery (Indianapolis) showed work by Jason Myers at Art Miami New York 2015. Myers, a native of Indiana, studied at Kansas City Art Institute (BFA) and American University, Washington D.C. (MFA). He is a video artist, sculptor, painter and printmaker. His work has a hint of the macabre in it. You can see more and find out more at www.jasonmyersart.com. Galerie Von Braunbehrens (Stuttgart) showed Luscious Selection by Peter Anton at Art Miami New York 2015. This piece looks good enough to eat but since it is made of resin, acrylic, wood, metal clay and other materials it might be fairly tough on the teeth. Anton, a Connecticut-based artist, creates art that mimics food. The pieces might bring forth cravings in the viewer and that is by design. These are sensual pieces, as sensual as any nude; what is more sensual that chocolate? The artist's work takes these things we crave and makes them large in scale--massively oversized, ridiculously so. You also get a sense of good humor from these pieces (especially the one's of ice cream). Find out more about the artist at www.peteranton.com. Sponder Gallery (Miami, Boca Raton, Oyster Bay Cove) showed Jelly Baby by Mauro Perucchetti at Art Miami New York 2015. Made of resin, Jelly Baby, is a comment on cloning. Yes, cloning. These identical images were inspired by the creation of Dolly, the cloned sheep.
You can draw the lines between the two things yourself. But beyond the intent of the piece these are simply beautiful. They are aesthetically beautiful and eye-catching. Perucchetti is a modern pop artist who brings something other than an altered portrait of Marilyn Monroe to the party. See more from the artist HERE. |
