Le Poisson Rouge (158 Bleecker St, NYC) presents Kaletski Inspirations on Thursday, January 29, 2015 from 6 to 8 p.m. RSVP required.

Alexander Kaletski, a Russian artist who moved to New York during the Cold War is more than just an artist; he is an actor, writer, musician AND fine artist. We did an interview with him a few years back that is always worth a read (we really should chat with him again).

Kaletski is represented by Anna Zorina Gallery (533 West 23rd St. New York).

Le Poisson Rouge is mainly a music venue but they also do art events.

Dada is alive and well. Sure it appeared after World War I as an art cum protest movement (World War is always a catalyst for artistic movements). Dada mixed painting, collage and found objects. Pregnant with meaning these pieces also foreshadowed surrealism, which was of course even less impressed with "meaning."

Dada Turns The Tables runs from July 12 to September 5, 2014. There is an opening 7 to 9:30 p.m. There is a $9 cover charge for the opening.

Current Chicago artists Andrej Domansky, Helen Jones-Mayer, Helene Smith-Romer and Penelope Thrasher are the subject of a new exhibit at Out Of Line Gallery (2812 W Chicago, Chicago IL). The show will also feature prints by the early Dadaists.

There will also be a performance by Jazz duo Joanie Pallatto and Bradley Sparrow, piano. In addition Janice Misurell-Mitchell will perform Weimar style, Dada style music and poetry.

Ayala Leyser will speak on Dada the meaning of Meaninglessness in art and poetry.

John Airo To Be Part Of "Constantly.Consuming.Culture-The Art Show

John Airo, artist denizen of the great city of Chicago, has generously agreed to be part of Constantly.Consuming.Culture--The Art Show. Please help out by pledging to the art show KICKSTARTER.

Airo hates the whole bio thing. So we’ll just state the obvious; he is an artist. Specifically he is a multi-media artist based in Chicago. He does everything from comics to large scale public art.  Chicago isn’t just Airo’s home but the source of his inspiration (as you will notice from his work below). His work often uses the city as subject both literally and figuratively; the city’s skyline and found objects are both used.b Pieces from Airo’s Chicago Flags series are below.

Airo’s work can be seen at a number of Chicago’s drinking and music establishments. There is a diversity in his work but also common threads that pull disparate pieces together. Airo's work channels Chicago and mixes bright and dark--a dark sensibility with often vibrant colors.

You can find out and see more at www.johnairo.com.

Dr. Seuss' Secrets Of The Deep At Onessimo Fine Art--Bring The Kids!

I do not like green eggs and ham….well, really, who does? But everyone loves Dr. Seuss. I want to have more children just so I can read them those books and Onessimo Fine Art in Palm Beach Gardens is having a very special exhibit of the art of Dr. Seuss. Dr. Seuss’ Secrets Of The Deep, is a new exhibition of Seuss art.  This is in celebration of the publication of The Lost, Forgotten And Hidden Works Of Theodor Seuss Geisel, a book collecting Geisel’s art that is the most comprehensive to date.

There is an opening reception on Friday night, October 21 from 6 to 9 p.m. with comments by Bill Dreyer, the national curator of the Dr. Seuss Exhibit. The next day, Saturday, October 22, from 12 to 4 p.m.is the family reception. Bring your kids dressed as characters from Seuss books (or in Halloween costumes!) and they can win prizes. You grown ups are strongly encouraged to dress as well.

I love exhibits like this—for the family, introducing kids to art, dressing up like giant fish and cats wearing towering multi-colored top hats? What is NOT to love.

Onessimo Fine Art is located at 4530 PGA Boulevard, Palm Beach Gardens, just west of I-95 and on the South side of PGA. People in Broward, it isn’t THAT far! Please RSVP at [email protected] or 561-355-8061.

Civilian Art Projects in Washington D.C. is having a reading combined with visual projections, and a live soundscape THIS Saturday, August 13th at 6 p.m. Danielle de Picciotto, artist and Berlin club scenster will read from her memoir, The Beauty of Transgression. Alexander Hacke of Einstürzende Neubauten (probably the only industrial band that matters) will perform those live electronic soundscapes for your amusement as well.

The event will set you back a whopping $5. So be there. They also hint that they just MIGHT play an unreleased Neubauten film collage Picciotto edited for the group’s thirtieth anniversary tour last year.

Again. FIVE BUCKS. It is in DC so I am sure there will be lots of members of Congress there too. Civilian is located at 1019 7th Street NW, Washington, DC
