44 Flood's "Tome 2-Melancholia" Kickstarter Funds In One Day

6/27/2013

Picture
44 Flood is a fairly new publisher of art books etc based in Chicago. They feature work by artists such as Menton 3, Ben Templesmith, Christopher Ulrich, David Stoupakis and literally dozens of other artists--in every medium from paint to song to food to design etcetera.

Their new project, Tome 2-Melancholia, funded at Kickstarter in less than 24 hours (and has current pledges of over $36,000).

The first Tome book was a magnificent work with an ever expanding group of artists (as the project garnered more financial support). Like that project this one features music, art prints and the Tome 2 book (plus a companion book, Explicitus Ex Liber 2).
Let them explain the details HERE.
At this point the project is funded but as it progresses (there is a month and a half left) you can be sure more will be added to the project. If you purchase via a Kickstarter pledge you will also save money on the price of the book. Many of the prints and extras in the Kickstarter will be available only via Kickstarter pledges.

Another reason why crowdfunding is so great despite the fact that it has become something for angry hipsters to sneer at (go wax your ridiculous mustaches and iron your ironic t-shirts).

P.P.O.W.(NYC) presents Skin Trade An In-Depth Look At The Surface Of Things From June 27 to July 27, 2013. There will be an opening reception from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, July 27.

The exhibit, curated by Martha Wilson and Larry List, looks at the use of skin as the subject, in fact or as metaphor, in art. This exhibit features 31 artists.

Obviously the term "skin trade" has numerous, and sometimes unseemly, connotations. Four of these are burlesque, pornography, prostitution and exotic dance. The exhibition is grouped according to these four designations.

An essay by List and an illustrated checklist are available free as a downloadable PDF at ppowgallery.com.

Margarete Jakschik, Lucas Knipscher & Win McCarthy, Jason Meadows, Virginia Overton, Matt Paweski,Noam Rappaport, Josef Strau,James Welling and Amy Yao.

Higgs writes that three years ago he was asked to put together a group show and his idea was Illuminations, a show ith pieces using a light source. That show didn't happen but the idea remained. This exhibit isn't precisely the same as the original concept. But it is quite close--artists of different types using illumination in their work.

Camille Iemmolo's "Write Back Super Hero's Club" Opening In NYC July 5, 2013

Camille Iemmolo's latest work, The Write Back Super Hero's Club, opens at The Proposition (2 Extra Place, NYC) on July 5 and runs until July 27, 2013. There will be an artist's reception from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, July 13, 2013.

Iemmolo appeared  as a guest on Wednesday June 19, 2013  on our internet radio program, Constantly.Consuming.Culture with Patrick Ogle. You can listen to the stream HERE.

Iemmolo, based in Chicago is a sculptor/installation artist. Her work always has a story behind it—personal but always something that is also universal. The Write Back Super Hero’s Club was inspired by the seeming death of letter writing.  Her own work began, in part, through written correspondence and this installation encourages those visiting to write down those unwritten words and include them in the piece (you will figure out how when you visit). Are words becoming extinct? Is communication? This piece poses those questions.

The Band Aid House At Play piece first appeared at Context/Art Miami in December 2012. It was one of the stand out installations at any fair during the week plus of exhibitions. Check out the video below for more on Band Aid House At Play.
