This contemporary gallery, opened in 2013, they represent American and international artists whose work has a positive twist. There is nothing precious or ethereal in this; these artists engage the world through their work.
Anna Zorina Gallery (533 West 23rd St., NYC) will be at Context Miami 2015, for the first time I believe. They will show a collection of art by Nadine Faraj, Alexander Kaletski, Alonsa Guevara, Bradley Hart and Leahyerpe.

Tyler Rollins Fine Art wIll show work by Southeast Asian artists: Tiffany Chung, Sopheap Pich and Pinaree Sanpitak at Pulse Miami Beach 2015. The fair runs December 1 to 5, 2015. You can find out more about the artists in advance at the Tyler Rollins Fine Art website. The Machine Show at Swampspace (3940 North Miami Ave., Miami) is a look at the history of machines and mechanization. Galerie Peter Kilchmann (Zurich) will be at Art Basel Miami Beach 2015, December 2 to 6 at booth C21. We spoke, briefly, to Fabio Pink, sales director, at the gallery. He is the man responsible for all matters related to art fairs. This includes the application;you have to apply, you don't just pay and get a booth like at a Comicon. He also handles all perparation for fairs: lists of work, transport, catalogue, booth layout, press and many other duties (too many to list). Pink says that Art Basel Miami is distinct from the other versions of the fair. "Miami is very different than Basel and HK. The focus is Latin America; there are more Latin American galleries participating, therefore more Latin American artists are exhibited. On the other hand, there are also more Latin American collectors attending the fair," says Pink. "I am Brazilian and I know that Miami is very attractive to South Americans: nice weather, not so far away, Spanish and Portuguese spekers-friendly." How does the gallery choose what they bring to the show? They think on what makes the fair unique but it is a little more complicated. "We choose to bring new works by artists that appeal to Latin-American as well as American collectors in general," he says. "There are not only latinos in Miami; but also many New Yorkers, east coast Americans, LA people coming to Basel Miami. Miami is also for Americans a attractive destination, I guess." Artists included:Francis Alys, Hernan Bas, Marc-Antoine Fehr, Fernanda Gomes, Raffi Kalenderian, Zilla Leutenegger, Armin Boehm, Monica Bonvicini, Los Carpinteros, Jorge Macchi, Adrian Paci and David Renggli. This year Pore, an exhibit of work by Martha Friedman, will be presented by Locust Projects in Miami Design Distric. Friedman will create four large rubber "pours" representing the four humors of blood, phlegm, yellow bile and black bile. Translucent sheets of rubber created will hang from the ceiling, each brightly colored and dramatically descend to the floor. Each is then connected to a "wearable sculpture." If this sounds like it might not translate easily into words? You might be right. Go see it. The wearable sculptures were made for dancer and choreographer, Silas Riener, who has worked for years with Friedman. For more information go HERE. Locust Projects is a not-for-profit founded in 1998 by three Miami artists, COOPER, Elizabeth Withstandley and Western Charles. They were among the first to move into the Wynwood area (back when it was quite stabby). Locust Projects exhibition space is dedicated to visual artists looking to experiment; there are no worries about sales and the other pressures of a gallery. Locust Projects are heavily involved in the community with free programs and initiatiives Lori Hyland's latest work will be shown by Bridgette Mayer Gallery at Art Miami 2015. Hyland is a Southern California artist we first ran into several years ago at Art Miami. Her abstract work is often filled with half hidden figures.
She references numerous schools. These are new pieces with a new gallery. Be sure to drop by to see them at Art Miami 2015. Antonio Colombo Arte Contemporanea will be at Pulse Art Fair this year--featuring work by El Gato Chimney and Clayton Brothers. El Gato Chimney not only has a cool name but produces unique and intriquing art with an aesthetic that seems from some remote place in time--but is also extremely modern. Clayton Brothers work always makes me think of the times Ive sat next to someone on the bus who I felt might have just been released from psychiatric observation. I mean that in a good way. Waterhouse & Dodd are once again bringing contemporary and Post-War artists to South Florida for Miami Art Week. Current artists such as Trevor Bell, Karen Gunderson, Doug Argue, Mauro Perucchetti and Jean-François Rauzier will be represented. Post-War artists, as always, include a "who's who" list of artist including Sam Francis, Pablo Picasso, Hans Hoffman and a slew of others. Be sure to stop by their booth. Laura Kimpton, out of California, is a painter, sculptor and mixed media artist. Her work incorporates found objects, paint, resin, televisions, photography and found objects. Her latest installation, Myths, Words and Fire, opens December 1, 2015 at SLS South Beach Hotel (1701 Collins Ave., Miami Beach). This installation includes the ground floor of the hotel from the street to the pool. It is sponsored by collectors Marc Bell and Marc Leder.
This is the artist's first Miami Beach project. She will also launch her She's Got Wings clothing line at the hotel during Miami Art Week. There will be a VIP party at the hotel Saturday, December 5. Find out more about the artist at www.laurakimpton.com. |
