Michael Wolf, Paris Abstract, runs July 10 to August 30, 2014 at Robert Koch Gallery (49 Geary Street, San Francisco). There will be a reception with the artist 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., Thursday, July 10. Wolf, a photographer, lives part time in Paris and explores the urban landscape via the density of the city. The artist was concerned about working in Paris, fearful his work might seem cliche--but he obviously worked through that. He uses well known locales but focuses on the rooftops, what most of us never see. Wolf was born in Munich and raised in both the USA and Germany. He attended Univeristy of California at Berkeley and then University of Essen. His work has been extenisvely exhibited in the USA and Germany. The exhibit will also include vintage images of Paris. Find out more about Sargent's Daughters HERE. Chicago Artist's Coalition's Edition Chicago Returns September 19 To 22, 2014 at 217 N. Carpenter Street. The Chicago Artist's Coalition, in its 40th year, is bringing back their art fair in the West Loop. The fair focuses on art by emerging artists available at moderate prices. The dates coincide with Expo Chicago (held at Navy Pier). Edition Chicago features cutting edge galleries and non-profits from all over the USA. This concentration of art fairs in Chicago is great news. It helps make Chicago more of an art travel destination. So often there fairs feel as if they are competing against one another rather than taking the more constructive attitude of "a rising tide raises all boats." Bravo Chicago Artist's Coalition and Expo Chicago. The fair was founded by the Coalition and Andre Rafacz. Shirin Gallery (Tehran) Opens Two Solo Exhibits By Safaeddin Emami And Omid Mehdizadeh June 13, 20146/12/2014 Shirin Gallery (Tehran) opens two solo exhibits by Safaeddin Emami, Fridge, and Omid Mehdizadeh, Blood Laundering, June 13, 2014. The former runs to June 25, the latter until June 18. Emami's Fridge uses images from vintage advertisements as metaphor for space. The images are multi-layered silk screened images of animals, people, household items and personal possessions. He contrasts the relationship of audience and image via print-making. The artist was born in Tehran and educated as a graphic designer. His work has been shown in Iran and also at Opera Gallery (London). He is the recipient of an Islamic Art Biannual award in Design and Contemporary Painting. Mehdizadeh's Blood Laundering is a series where the artist "re-contextualizes" locations where murders have taken place via pictoral landscape photography. In these pieces the artist allows the viewer to recreate the story. He uses a cell phone lens and a documentary style.
