Lilian Garcia-Roig's Made in Cuba opens November 2, 2018 at Cernuda Arte (3155 Ponce de Leon Blvd., Coral Gables). The opening for this one-artist exhibition takes place from 6 to 9 p.m., Friday, November 2. The artist will be in
attendance.

This exhibition comes with a 36 page catalog with an essay by Dr. Carol Damian, former Director and Chief Curator of the
Patricia and Phillip Frost Art Museum of Art (FIU).

On Saturday, November 3 there will be a lecture by Damian at 4 p.m. and an artist talk With Garcia-Roig at 5 p.m.

GraphicStudio (Tampa) turns 50, Celebrate The Anniversary At Tampa Theatre (711 North Franklin St., Tampa) at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, October 4, 2018.

The print studio/fine art publisher opened at the University of South Florida in 1968. The program includes former directors Donald Saff, Alan Eaker, and Hank Hine along with current director Margaret Miller discussing past and future projects.

Shulamit Nazarian (616 N. La Brea Ave., Los Angeles) presents a conversation with Josh Faught and Kate McNamara, Saturday June 24 at 4 p.m. The artist's work is on exhibit in Broken Language, a group exhibition also including Greg Ito, Takeshi Murata and Wendy White, until July 1, 2017.

Faught uses textiles, collage, sculpture and archival materials with an eye to collective and personal history. Novelty buttons mix with greeting card text and other sentimental ornamentation mix in the artist's handmade textiles. Faught holds an MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and his work is in the collection of the Institute of Contemporary Art (Boston), the Baltimore Museum of Art, the Rubell Family Collection and the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art.

McNamara is the Director of Galleries at Otis College of Art and Design (Los Angeles) and was previously Chief Curator at the Boston University Art Gallery. She is a co-founder of Cleopatra's (Brooklyn). She has also worked in curation at MoMa, PS1 (New York), AIR Anterpen (Belgium) and Participant Inc.

Out Of Line Art Gallery (Chicago) runs My CUBA, street photography by Orna Naor August 5 to 24, 2016. There will be a reception from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, August 5. There will also be an artist talk, The Challenges of Street Photograhpy, from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, August 12. Find out more about the artist at www.ornanaor.com .

Naor is an Israeli street photographer, lecturer and a member of the Israeli Street Photographers Collective, Urbanica. She has travelled the world capturing innumerable ways of life. The work in Cuba took place over a number of years. Her most recent visit took place as relations between Cuba and the U.S.A began to thaw.

The exhibit is curated by Saar and Iris Avigour.

University of South Florida's Graphicstudio (3702 Spectrum Blvd., Suite 100, Tampa) presents an evening with guest artist Aya Tarek and Graphicstudio printer, Tim Baker. The evening begins at 6 p.m., Monday, February 22, 2016. The discussion begins at 7 p.m.

Tarek is a street artist, painter and muralist visiting from Egypt. She will talk about her process, go and hear where this exciting artist is heading next. The evening is free and will include Middle Easter fare and the musical stylings of DJ Cotton.

Cernuda Arte (3155 Ponce de León Blvd., Coral Gables) presents Cuban Art In Miami Public Spaces a presentation by Jorge A.Hernández at 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 4, 2014.

As art aficionados not living under a rock are aware, Miami has become an art destination, an epicenter of arts in America. This is in no small part due to artwork installed in publc places.

Hernández, using powerpint, will show his audience the location of a variety of works; murals, installations, sculpturs and monuments creeated by Cuban artists (including; Agustín Cárdenas, Carlos Alfonzo, Cundo Bermúdez,  Antonio Gattorno, Tony López, Rolando López Dirube, Manuel Carbonell, Domingo Ravenet, Juan José Sicre, Enrique Martínez Celaya, Enrique Riverón, José Bedia, Manuel Mendive and more.)
 
Hernández, holds an MBA from Florid International University, a Masters in Management from Nova Southeastern and a BA in Computer Science fro the University of Havana. He is also a researcher on and enthusiast for Cuban art.

Millenium Park (Chicago) Hosting Installation By Spanish Sculptor Jaume Plensa To Celebrate Park's 10th Anniversary

Millenium Park (Chicago) hosting installation by Spanish sculptor Jaume Plensa to celebrate park's 10th anniversary. The exhibit opens 1004 Portraits June 19, 2014 and it will be on site through December 2015.

The sculptures will be positioned to compliment the 1000 LED portraits of Chicagoans already illuminating the Crown Fountain. One sculpture, titled Looking Into My Dreams Awilda, stands 38 feet tall. Other sculptures are made of cast iron.

Plensa is to host a public discussion of the pieces from 6 to 7 p.m. Monday, June 16 at Fullerton Hall at the Art Institute (111 S. Michigan). The conversation is free.

The installation is is co-presented by Millennium Park Foundation, the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events, The Boeing Company and the Richard H. Driehaus Foundation.
 
More work by Plensa will be displayed throughout Chicago this summer including Private Dreams at Richard Gray Gallery and also a display of the piece, Silent Music, at the Ravinia Festival over the summer.

Plensa's work has been featured all over the world and he has won numerous international awards. He lives in Barcelona.

German photographer Michael Wolf will speak at 7 p.m., Tuesday, March 18 at California College of the Arts (Timken Lecture Hall, 1111 Eighth Street San Francisco) at a lecture sponsored by Robert Koch Gallery. There is no RSVP and seats are available on s first come first serve basis.

Wolf's work examines life in "layered urban landscapes." He examines private and public spaces in a historic context--the past as well as modern development. His most widely known wok is of Hong Kong. He has been exhibited at/by; the Venice Biennale for Architecture; Aperture Gallery, New York; Museum Centre Vapriikki, Tampere, Finland; Museum for Work, Hamburg, Germany; Museum of Contemporary Photography, Chicago and at numerous galleries.

The lecture is held in collaboration with SFMOMA, Pier 24, and CCA.

John Preus' The Beast runs April 13 to August 3, 2014 a Hyde Park Art Center (5020 S Cornell Ave., Chicago). There will be an opening reception from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, April 13.

Preus will transform the interior of the center by making a large structure out of various "harvested" materials; discarded wood, furniture from closed Chicago Public Schools, upholstery leather and many other odds and end. The area will be an artist-run space through the exhibits total run. There will be a number of performances, discussions and more offered in the space (programming by the artist and/or collaborators).

Preus is well known as the main designer/builder for the Dorchester Projects' Archive House and the lead fabricator for Theaster Gates. He is the founder of Dilettante Studios which designs cabinetry and furniture--largely created from "used" materials.
