Vivian Maier: Exposed runs at The Cleve Carney Art Gallery (425 Fawell Blvd., Glen Ellyn, IL) June 17 to August 16, 2014. There will be an opening reception 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, June 17. There will also be an Afternoon with Vivian Maier film screening, panel discussion and book signing from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, June 27. The museum, associated with College of DuPage is showcasing a mix of silver gelatin and digital prints by the artist. Maier, originally from New York City, grew up in France. She returned to NYC in the late 1930s, working as a nanny for 40 years. She produced more than 100,000 negatives. Her work was not discovered until 2007. She is a true undiscovered genius. It is sort of sad she was not acknowledged until the very end of her life. In fact her work really didn't receive true acclaim until after her death in 2009. All the exhibited photographs are from the collection of Jeffrey Goldstein, one of the three original owners of the artists work. He and others have championed this work. Goldstein needed 275 rolls of Maier's film developed and he contacted Frank Jackowiak, a College of DuPage faculty member (at that time). He and a team of students worked on the prints. Jankowiak is the co-curator of the exhibit. Ruth Gomez' Spray runs at La New Gallery (Carranza 6 ~ 28004 Madrid) from March 5 to March 29, 2014. There will be an opening begining at 8 p.m Wednesday March 5. The animated wall/mural is inspired by video games, the Belleville area of Paris and shares some of the characteristics of a Final Fantasy episode (it was originally creared to be projected on the facade of a building in Madrid. The piece takes video imagery and brings it into modern life--the animated mixes with real life images. Mikey Peterson’s video, Six Moments Of Clarity, will be show at the Audivisiona digitali SciCli #1 this weekend May 31-June 1, 2013 in Ragusa, Sicily, Italy. Get there early, the event is free but it is first come first serve! Storm Thorgerson is the artist behind some of rock n roll’s great album covers. His work is that always elusive blending of art and commerce. His work includes covers for Muse, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, The Mars Volta and many others. The gallery is showing a retrospective of Thorgerson’s work and there will also be a free closing reception from 7 to 10 p.m., Friday November 2, 2012.
