Monica Jahan Bose has a new book coming--Her Words: Storytelling With Saris. The book will launch with an exhibition at the Edward M. Kennedy Center for Public Service an the Arts (House 5, Midas Center, 9th fl., Road 27 (old) Dhanmondi, Dhaka, Bangladesh) from July 19 to August 9, 2014. The opening reception is at 5 p.m., Saturday, July 19, 2014. Bose is working on a site-specific installation using saris and a triptych video. This is being done in collaboration with women of Katakhali Village and filmmaker Nandita Ahmed.

Over 170 people have sponsored this event.

Bose's art is work you should know. It isn't just aesthetically beautiful it is socially and politically provocative. In Bangladesh her work explores womens roles in society. For Westerners it forces eyes to turn to other cultures, not with a paternalistic eye, but with an eye to how the problems of another culture are not "worse" than ours but different, from a different social source.

Storytelling with Saris is an ongoing, collaborative art and advocacy project that highlights the achievements of literacy and climate adaptation by women of Katakhali (a remote island community).

Dada is alive and well. Sure it appeared after World War I as an art cum protest movement (World War is always a catalyst for artistic movements). Dada mixed painting, collage and found objects. Pregnant with meaning these pieces also foreshadowed surrealism, which was of course even less impressed with "meaning."

Dada Turns The Tables runs from July 12 to September 5, 2014. There is an opening 7 to 9:30 p.m. There is a $9 cover charge for the opening.

Current Chicago artists Andrej Domansky, Helen Jones-Mayer, Helene Smith-Romer and Penelope Thrasher are the subject of a new exhibit at Out Of Line Gallery (2812 W Chicago, Chicago IL). The show will also feature prints by the early Dadaists.

There will also be a performance by Jazz duo Joanie Pallatto and Bradley Sparrow, piano. In addition Janice Misurell-Mitchell will perform Weimar style, Dada style music and poetry.

Ayala Leyser will speak on Dada the meaning of Meaninglessness in art and poetry.
