Drawn Together, a group exhibition, runs November 12 to December 18, 2021 at Jane Lombard Gallery  (54 White St., New York). There will be an opening reception from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, November 12.

The show features art by Jane Bustin, Squeak Carnwath, Sarah Dwyer, Richard Ibghy & Marilou Lemmens, Teppei Kaneuji, T.J. Dedeaux-Norris, Lucy & Jorge Orta, Enrico Isamu Oyama, Dan Perjovschi, Lucas Reiner, Stefan Saffer, Elizabeth Schwaiger, Howard Smith and Courtney Tramposh.

Most of the work here is on paper but the artists use the medium in a variety of ways. That is what makes the exhibition interesting. Forget the art school gobbeldygook, these artists work on the same surface but they produce a variety of styles.

Susan Jane Belton's Playing In Traffic Opens June 18, 2021 At Howard Yezerski Gallery (Boston)

Susan Jane Belton's Playing in Traffic Opens June 18, 2021 at Howard Yezerski Gallery (460 Harrison Ave., A16, Boston). The opening reception takes place 5 to 7pm Friday, June 18, 2021.

This is Belton's fourth solo show at the gallery. This exhibit moves away from a subject that has been a large part of the artist's work...the take-out coffee cup. In the past year she has been (like many of us) taking lots of walks as well and the things she has seen during these wanderings also find their way into the work: traffic cones, fire hydrants and other oft overlooked parts of our world. If these pieces depicted cakes you might think "Wayne Thiebaud."  In other words? Wonderful work.

The artist will be on hand at the gallery for "Artist Saturdays" between 1-4pm June 19 & 26, July 10 and August 7.

Find out more about the artist at susanjanebelton.com.

Polarity, a two person exhibition of sculptures by Lisa Haque and Capucine Safir opens Saturday, September 7, 2019 At Laundromat Art Space (5900 N.E. 2nd Ave., Miami).

The opening takes place from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday, September 7.

The exhibition is an exploration of form and concept through the juxtaposition of materials with opposing qualities. The hard, the heavy seem soft and light while the fibrous and flexible appears solid. The materials contract limestone and paper.

Safir, from France but living in Miami, was the subject of a Mapanare Miami Art Week interview a few years ago. She works in both stone and fiberglass. Hague, also living in Miami, holds an MFA in Interdisciplinary Book and Paper Arts from Columbia College (Chicago).

Ruby Rumié presents Divine Breath NYC, an exhibition of art drawing from experiences of domestic violence survivors, October 4 to 26, 2019 at La Galleria (47 Great Jones Street, New York City). There will be an opening from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday, October 3.

The exhibition is the result of the artist conducing 100 ceremonies with domestic violence survivors from New York City. The ceremonies involve symbolic gestures of women recognizing, releasing and transforming their silent paint into "divine breath." The works include ceramics, photography and text. This exhibition takes from a previous exhibition, Halito
Divino
, a project Rumié did in Cartagena, Columbia six years ago.

The idea here is to provide a transformative experience for women and increase awareness of the blight of domestic violence. A partner in this event is Safe Horizon, a leader in domestic violence victim's assistance. The organization
invited women involved in their programs to participate.

Rumié was born and lives in Cartagena.

Monica Jahan Bose's Latest Exhibition, "Weather The Storm," Runs March 31 To April 21, 2018 At Civilian Art Projects (Washington D.C.)

Monica Jahan Bose's latest exhibition runs March 31 to April 21, 2017 at  Civilian Art Projects (Washington D.C.). There will be a reception from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday, March 31.

Jahan Bose's work is often part performance, part installation and always have a point, are always aimed to enlighten and educate.

This exhibit includes new paintings that arise from a number of performance and climate art actions. The title comes from a Bengali song.. There have been recent performances in Miami, Washington DC, Honolulu, Paris and Katahali Village (Bangladesh).

All of these performances used the coconut as a symbol of climate resilience. This new symbol uses the artist's use of the sari. Her "performance pieces" are not just art but community activism.

This exhibit is accompanied by a new publication, Rising Up to Climate Change: Storytelling with Saris. This is funded, in part, by a grant from the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities (part of the NEA). Bose's pieces employing sari's have been ongoing for many years.

In addition to the opening there will be a Sari Workshop & Sing-A-Long at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 14 and an Artist Talk/Closing Reception at 3 p.m. Saturday April 21.
