Vanessa Maltese's Fact or Fiction runs June 18 to July 16, 2021 at Cooper Cole (134 Dupont St.,Toronto). There will be a virtual artist talk at noon, Friday, July 9, 2021. You can register HERE.

Maltese, based in Toronto, focuses on visual and cognitive perception. She is specifically concerned with pareidolia, the phenomenon where recognizable patterns are seen in unrelated contexts. Think of seeing faces or poodles in the clouds. The artist's work, be it sculpture, painting or video, uses some form of visual trickery to force the viewer into contemplating the intersection of perception and truth.

Susan Jane Belton's Playing In Traffic Opens June 18, 2021 At Howard Yezerski Gallery (Boston)

Susan Jane Belton's Playing in Traffic Opens June 18, 2021 at Howard Yezerski Gallery (460 Harrison Ave., A16, Boston). The opening reception takes place 5 to 7pm Friday, June 18, 2021.

This is Belton's fourth solo show at the gallery. This exhibit moves away from a subject that has been a large part of the artist's work...the take-out coffee cup. In the past year she has been (like many of us) taking lots of walks as well and the things she has seen during these wanderings also find their way into the work: traffic cones, fire hydrants and other oft overlooked parts of our world. If these pieces depicted cakes you might think "Wayne Thiebaud."  In other words? Wonderful work.

The artist will be on hand at the gallery for "Artist Saturdays" between 1-4pm June 19 & 26, July 10 and August 7.

Raya Terran's Stills from the Migratory Ballad runs June 23 to August 20, 2021 At Yossi Milo Gallery (245 Tenth Ave., New York).

These striking landscapes feature "fleshy beings" who move across landscapes including beaches, roadways
and other less identifiable areas. Sometimes they are flying, biking, walking but they are all moving, migrating. Indeed the pieces allude to Terran's upbringing traveling across North and South America with her musician mother.

View the exhibit online HERE.

Terran is from Marin Count, California but she grew up in Oregon, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Alaska, Mexico and Guatamala. She holds a BFA in Fine Art from The Cooper Union. She lives in Brooklyn.

Susan Silton's "We" June 26 To August 14, 2021 At Luis De Jesus (Los Angeles)

Susan Silton's We runs June 26 to August 14, 2021 at Luis De Jesus (1110 Mateo St., Los Angeles). There will be an opening from 3 to 6pm, Saturday, June 26.

This is the artist's firrst solo exhibition with the gallery. You can make an appointment HERE (although these are not necessary)

Silton, in this new body of work, is questioning the nature of reality vs appearances. The work consists of 16 photo etchings of landscapes. The prints are of images that, initially, appear the same but each has actually been subtly modified, exposing differences. An interesting way of illustrating how our perception will invariably differ from another human standing next to us.
