Boxheart Gallery (Pittsburgh) showed work by Irina Koukhanova at Aqua Art Miami 2016.

Koukhanova, from Russia, attended the Moscow Institute of Art and Industrial Design anf the University of Massachussetts-Dartmouth and Notre Dame. Her work inhabits a world between sculpture and installation.

SCAI (Seoul) Showed work by Soon-Duck Ahn and Kim Sun Tai at Aqua Art Miami 2016. The Seoul location of the gallery/organization promotes work by Korean artists.

Ahn's work often features weathered bags as subject. The pieces have the cracks and marks of an old familiar suitcase. They are lovely to see in person. Tai's work of flowers are intricate and simple at the same time. Click on them to enlarge.

Raitman Art Gallery (Vail/Breckenridge) showed work by DD LaRue and Rolinda at Aqua Art Miami 2016.

Rolinda uses an oil painting technique of her own devising that she calles "Bella Rotta." You can check out a great (and short) Youtube video where the artist explains the process HERE.

LaRue uses the doors from VWs in here work--well not ALL of her work but it is a reoccurring motif. These pieces brim with optimism; this is likely because they depict what appear to be happy, goofy dogs. What is more positive than a dog leaning out a window?

Mayer Fine Art (Norfolk) showed work by Alexey Terenin and Richard Meyer at Aqua Art Miami 2016.

Terenin is a Moscow-born artist (raised in Prague) who studied architecture. His earliest foray into the art world was as a set-designer for The Bolshoi. It is fascinating how many painters, over many years, have a background in set design. His work often draws from Russian literature.

Meyer's work is usually historical social realism. This piece reminded me of surrealism than realism but this , perhaps, isn't typical for the artist. You can see more for both artists at the gallery page linked above.

Owen James Gallery (Brooklyn) showed work by Mariano Ching, Dex Fernandez and Elin Rodseth at Aqua Art Miami 2016.

Ching lives and works in the Phillippines. He has exhibited with Silverlens Gallery in both Singapore and Manila. Fernandez is another Filipino artist. He holds a degree in advertising and has exhibited in the Phillippines, Taiwain and the USA. Rødseth lives somewhere entirely different--Oslo, Norway.

Elisa Contemporary Art (Riverdale) showed work by Amy Genser at Aqua Art Miami 2016. These two pieces are paper collage. The artist adheres the paper pieces to painted surfaces. They are textured and layered pieces with vibrant color you don't really get in a photo (taken at an art show).

They are intricate pieces with titles that seem to be more about the color than anything depicted in them--excepting, perhaps, the octopus one.

Lebo Studios (Miami Brach) showed work by David "Lebo" LeBatard at Aqua Art Miami 2016.

Lebo is a painter, sculptor and muralist from South Florida. He has showrooms in both Wynwood and Miami Beach. His work is in numerous private and corporate collections.

His website describes his art as cartoon expressionism and there is certainly something of both the cartoonist and the expressionist in the pieces shown here.

Jenny Green Gallery (Bend, OR) showed work by Alejandro Salazar and Jennifer Hirschfield at Aqua Art Miami 2016.

Salazar, from Mexico, lives in Northern California. Many artist's statements are complicated (some might say convoluted) but Salazar takes a different route. On the gallery page it says simply that he wants to honestly explore emotion in his paintings, drawings and mixed media work. It is refreshing to see that genuine expression of an artist's goals.

Hirshfield, from the San Francisco Bay area, attended the University of Californa Davis. You can see the influence of the figurative painters from the area. Her work strives to connect with the people, animals and objects in the work.

Galeri Selvin (Istanbul) showed work by Neveser Ozenbas, Mahmut Karatoprak, Zerrin Tekindor and Nejdet Vergili at Aqua Art Miami 2016. The gallery first opened its doors in Ankara in 1985 before opening a Istanbul location in 2006 (a sculpture gallery opened at the Istanbul location in 2013).

The art Galeri Selvin showed covers a great deal fo ground. Some pieces remind of Klimpt others of Toulouse Latrec and still others of Rennaissence masters. This is just a small sample. You can see and read more about represented artists HERE.
