Tom McKinley is the subject of a new exhibit at John Berggruen Gallery opening October 30 and running through December 8, 2012. There will be a reception on Tuesday, October 30 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. This is the artist's sixth solo exhibit with the gallery.

McKinley's work focuses on classic and contemporary architecture. He doesn't usually show the humans who inhabit these structures in his work. He more alludes to their existence in the details--the furniture, art and other accoutrements of the fine homes he paints.

The artist was born in Michigan and studied at Brighton Polytechnic, Ravenshourne College of Art (London) and at Falmouth School of Arts. In the USA he studied at Goddard College, Vermont.

Onessimo Fine Art, PGA Commons 4530 PGA Blvd, Ste 101, Palm Beach Gardens, Florida  has new works by Jean DuQuoc.

Duquoc is a French artist (from Britanny). His work has its roots in his native region. He captures the soul, the heart, the rocks and the earth of Britanny. The theme of his work often involves the disapearing traditional Breton way of life.

His work is tough to label and fit into a specific genre, school of art. That is usually a good thing isn't it?

Isabel Samaras' "Making A Better Yesterday Today" At Varnish Fine Art

Picture
Isabel Samaras' Making A Better Yesterday Today opens at Varnish Fine Art,  16 Jessie St., #C120, in San Francisco November 3 and runs through December 22, 2012. The gallery divides into two spaces for this exhibit--one for yesterday and the other for today. These works are essentially "mash-ups" or the visual equivalent. Oil paintings and print from the pop artist feature images from work never shown before in San Francisco.

Her works mythologize faces we all know from pop culture, especially television of yesteryear. But Samaras brings more to the table than just paintings of Lucille Ball. She adds to the images both stylistically and brings these characters new life.

Her works are usually small but there are also large pieces made for this exhibition. If you are in the area be sure to see the exhibit.

The installation of artist Mark Davis' outdoor sculpture, Healing Waters, takes place November 15, 2012. The sculpture will be in the driveway entrance and complements the interior and other decorations in the area (including the Art Institute, Chicago Symphony, etc.).

The work is a suspended sculpture which will be above the drive way entrance. It represents the flowing of water and is made of blue and green leaves. Two of the leaves are in the photo shown here. The idea is to give the calming effect of water to those entering the hospital.

The piece is made possible by Gigi and Michael Pucker via the Pritzker Pucker Family Foundation. The Puckers will be on hand for the dedication as will the artist.
