Mr Imagination (Gregory Warmack) was an artist known for his creative use of bottle caps and other "junk" is his art. And that art was fun, it was exuberant and it was a huge loss when Mr Warmack passed away in Atlanta in May 2012.
His work is in collections all over the world and he was featured in books on self taught artists. He was 64. Painter Laura Lacambra Shubert has new paintings at Onessimo Fine Art in Palm Beach Gardens. Some of these new works are pictured here. Find out more about the artist at the Onessimo website. Photographer and graphic designer Jay Yao (Jose Campos III) has new work on exhibit at Silverlens, 2320 Pasong Tamo Extension, Makati City in the Philippines. Skyscapes show six clouds shot in flight over the past several years. Yao is based in Manila and New York. These photos are part of his life in a sense—they are images of the travel between Manila and New York, between homes, between countries. Thinking about it, this is something we share even if we, non-photographers haven’t noticed it. All our trips, once up on high, look down on clouds as we move in our lives. Find out more about the exhibit HERE. It opens June 28 and there is a reception from 6 to 9 p.m. Also opening June 28 are paintings by Chati Coronel and Geraldine Javier.
Coronel’s works, collectively entitled Skinskin. Read more about these works that “speak of touch and contact” HERE. Javier , another wonderful painter, known for her oddly disturbing paintings (and masterful craft) has works entitled, Red Fights Back. You really need to go read more on her and her work HERE. Linda Gottesfeld received her BFA from RISD and added an MFA from the University of California, Berkely. Currently she is a professor of Fine Arts at Pace. She has been shown in a slew of solo and group exhibitions, received grants and residencies galore. Her series, Linda Gottesfeld: Pearlbrook Drive will be on exhibited at Ellen Miller Gallery, 38 Newbury St, Boston , June 15 toAugust 3, 2012. There is an opening reception, Friday, June 15 from 5-7 p.m. So what are these paintings? It all started with two friends took a road trip. One was Gottesfeld and the other Jackie Lyden of NPR. The basic gist of the work is about perception. “The New Jersey suburb paintings address the slippage between memories of a place, the place itself, and its photographic image. My work in landscape explores beauty in the mundane; in this series I am mining my reactions to revisiting a neighborhood that I had not seen in more than ten years. “ says Gottesfeld. This is something everyone can, on some level relate to. Ever go back to your elementary school gym? Gottesfeld also describes how the works are made. “I begin by digitally altering my photographs with color and light filters, creating several versions. My color palettes recall M&Ms, Necco Wafers, wet Necco Wafers and Kodachrome, traversing familiar to extreme re-representation.” For more info head HERE. Miryana Todorova’s first solo exhibition in New York, Movables, begins Wednesday, at 5 p.m. June 6 at frosch & portmann, 53 Stanton Street, New York. The artist will be on hand at the opening and will extend the project out into the street at 5 p.m. Todorova is from Sofia, Bulgaria and has studied in London, Rome and Barcelona. She currently lives in NYC and recently completed her MFA at the School of Visual Arts. Her work is largely “movables” her own portable or mobile architecture. But her work is more than just the objects but the movement and interaction with them. This exhibition will include interactive objects, paintings and videos of her performances. You are, by the way, SUPPOSED to interact with the movables on display. Her paintings are a tangible “phenomenology” of her objects. Imagine being inside one of the movables looking out then take a look at one of the paintings. When the project heads out into the street you can participate. Bring a suitcase, shopping cart or any other little home vehicle. At 5:30 p.m. on June 6 the artist and participants will move about the Lower East Side as a group. If you get there after 5:30, do not worry you can get their coordinates and join the group. This will all be filmed. At 630 it is all back to the gallery for the rest of the reception. Art can be fun. It doesn't HAVE to be but it CAN be. Good For You is a new exhibition at David Klein Gallery in Birmingham, Michigan.
