I strongly recommend checking out the Galeria Ca D'Oro website.
I neglected to get the names of the artists here. I do that sometime but, in this case I felt the need to post.
I strongly recommend checking out the Galeria Ca D'Oro website.

Adah Rose Gallery (Kensington, MD) showed work by Brian Dupont, Joan Belmar and Jessica Drenk at Art Miami New York 2015. The gallery, near Washington D.C., shows contemporary artists who often work in the world between different medium; are these paintings or are they sculpture? Artists shown by Adah Rose may use found objects in their work, they may use fabric...You really never know and sometimes you have to look carefully to figure out what you are looking at. The work is always clever. Hans Alf Gallery (Copenhagen) showed work by Natasha Kissell and René Holm at Art Miami New York 2015. While the piece above by Kissell is oil on canvas the Brighton (U.K.) artist also paints on aluminum. Her landscapes depict the natural as well as the man-made world. Holm, an artist we first saw at Just Mad Mia 2013 in Miami, creates works depicting the marginalized in society. These pieces are oil on cardboard. Cernuda Arte (Coral Gables) showed their usual collection of Cuban artists at Art Miami New York 2015. Here are some of the highlights. It is amazing how Cernuda almost always seems to have different work from such a wide variety of artists. Their website, linked above, is a great place to learn about Cuban artists. One of the artists here, Roberto Fabelo, was born in Camagüey, Cuba in 1951. Fabelo is a painter, illustrator professor who has received some of Cuba's highest art awards (Medal for National Culture, the Alejo Carpentier Medal). His pieces often feature women with "bird-like" features. The piece here also includes a bird. One of his most well known works,Survival, a sculpture, features human headed cockroaches climbing the wall of the Havana Fine Arts Museum. He also illustrated a version of Gabriel Garcia Marquez' One Hundred Years of Solitude. Find out more (and see more) at the website linked above. by Víctor Manuel García, Ángel Acosta León and Mario CarreñoHollis Taggart Galleries (New York) Showed Work By Grace Hartigan At Art Miami New York 20155/29/2015 Hollis Taggart Galleries (New York) showed this piece by Grace Hartigan at Art Miami New York 2015. Hartigan began her career in the midst of the New York School. Her early works were abstract expressionist but she later moved on to creating work that was pop art and minimalist oriented. Her work, after the early 1960s, is more in this vein. She is an important artist in both of these significant American schools of art. McCormick Gallery (Chicago) showed work by Judy Chicago, Norman Bluhm and Paul Burlin at Art Miami New York 2015. McCormick handle estates and represent contemporary artists. You always see the recent and historic pieces at the gallery's booth. This booth was in conjunction with Abby M. Taylor and VVFA Modern. Tresart (Coral Gables) showed work by Mario Carreño, Tomas Sanchez, Amelia Pelaez and Mariano Rodriguez at Art Miami New York 2015. These Cuban artists are part of Tresart's focus; they show works by both contemporary artists and masters from Latin America. This group is of both masters and current artists with a variety of styles as well. Check out the Tresart website for more information. Desde la colina, la laguna by Tomas Sanchez
Cynthia Corbett Gallery (London) showed this piece by Lluís Barba at Art Miami New York 2015. Barba, from Barcelona (what a lovely city), is a painter, sculptor, photographer and video artist. This piece is provocatively titled, Guernica. Using Picasso in a collage takes some, shall we say, stones. His work often references the historical and has been exhibited on four continents. Durban Segnini Gallery showed work by Fernando De Szyszlo at Art Miami New York 2015. One of the important parts of Art Miami New York was the number of Miami galleries represented (news that the show is being "re-branded" as Art New York is a disappointment). These galleries often focus on Latin American art De Szyszlo is a Peruvian painter, engraver and sculptor. He studied at Catholic University in Lima (School of Plastic Arts) and then lived in Paris. He was originally studying to be an architect. His work shows influences from a variety of schools of art--from cubism to surrealism to abstract work. His pieces are held in numerous important public collections such as: Museum of Modern Art (NY), the Guggenheim, Museo de Arte Contemporaneo Arequipa (Peru) and numerous others. He currently lives in Lima. Ignacio Iturria's painting, which I neglected to get the name for, was shown by Ascaso Gallery (Miami) at Art Miami New York 2015. Iturria is an Uruguayan artist who spend time working in Spain in the 1980s but even then his work hearkened back to his early days in Uruguay. His work focuses on everyday things, everyday life. |
