Frederic Got (Paris) showed work by Jacques Le Bescond at Context Miami 2014.

This bronze piece, Idylle, stands over 8 feet tall. Le Bescond's work shows the human form in portions of his pieces. His pieces have a humanity to them, a human feel. They may be created out of bronze but there is something primal in them.

Le Bescond has been a sculptor since he was a child and is entirely self taught. You often see self-taught painters and collage artists; self-taught bronze sculptors are a rarer creature. Perhaps this is why he is ever exploring new techniques and is not "locked in" to any one.

Sasha-D Espacio De Arte (Cordoba, Argentina) showed work by Liliana Golubinsky at Context Miami 2014. Golubinsky, also from Argentina, was born in Buenos Aires and attended the Academy of Fine Arts Augusto Bolognini and the Fine Arts School of Prilidiano Pueyrredon.

This piece is mixed media on linen and is extraordinarily beautiful. When I first looked at this the figures reminded me of Marc Chagall but, and I have no way to support this second feeling, I also thought of Hieronymus Bosch.

Jonathan Levine Gallery (New York) showed work by Brett Amory at Context Miami 2014.

Jonathan Levine Gallery shows "undgerground" art. One of their stated aims is to show how multifaceted that term is. To this end they show work by masterful artists like Amory. These pieces depict scenes from the Miami area (excepting the "portrait", which COULD be in Miami as well). I've personally drank WAY too much in Club Deuce on a number of occasions.

He has been featured in Hi Fructose, Juxtapoz and many other publications.

532 Gallery Thomas Jaeckel showed work by Armando Marino and Tanja Selzer at Context Miami 2014.

Marino, born in Cuba and living in New York City, has had solo shows in Cuba, Spain, Yogoslavia and the USA going back over 20 years. You can see even more of his art at armandomarino.com.

Selzer, who lives and works in Berlin, creates paintings (this one is oil on linen). They seem almost like drawings and the movement and color in the works is wonderful. Check the gallery website linked above to see more.

Shirin Gallery (511 West 25th St. Suite 507 New York) presents Mahmoud Hamadani's Sonatas and Partitas from February 26 to March 20, 2015. There will be a reception from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, February 26, 2015.

The exhibition features the art of four distinct series of drawings: Requiem, Traces, Endless Roads, and Odes. The pieces range on ruminations on light and shadow to ruminations on Rumi.

The artist has a BA in mathematics from the State University of New York and a Master’s in Public Administration from the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University. His work is held in the collection of the British Museum and he has been exhibited in New York and London.

Expo Chicago 2015 Takes Place At Navy Pier September 17-20

Chicago's fine art show, Expo Chicago, runs September 17-20, 2015 at Navy Pier.

The exposition is the fourth for the exhibition. There were over 32,000 visitors in 2014. The show includes 140 galleries from all around the globe. Some of the world's leading galleries will be on hand. But this isn't just about well established artists; there is an Exposure section that shows work from younger galleries.

There will also be a lecture series in conjunction with the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. IN/SITU and IN/SITU Outside are curates site-specific installations both at Navy Pier and around the city.

Denise Bibro Fine Art (New York) showed work by Jerry Meyer at Context Miami 2014.

Meyer's work often uses plexiglas which he sometimes combines with kitchen appliances and other bits of plastic this and that. There is something moving about art created from things we use (or used) everyday; things that otherwise might have wound up in the trash. Every blender should wind up an art object.

The artist also attended Brown where he studied art history and Yale Medical School (where one can assume he studied medicine). He has been a full-time artist since 1998. Find out more about him at www.jerrymeyer.com.

I Think I Ate Gluten is a giclee print while Beat The Clock is a mixed media piece.

Beatrix Esguerra Art (Bogata) showed pieces by Pedro Ruiz at Context Miami 2014.

Ruiz's work is rooted in the socio-political life of his homeland, Columbia. But it isn't just politics and sociology in his pieces; he views nature as an uncontrollable component in this equation. Ruiz works in paintings and installations and he has worked in three series; Love is i the Air, Displacements and Gold.

These unique pieces of humans with poppy heads are open to all sorts of interpretation--from the beautiful to the provocative.

Caldwell Snyder Gallery (San Francisco/St. Helena) showed pieces by Jane Maxwell at Context Miami 2014.

Maxwell's work uses paper, print, wax and resin (mutiple layers of paper). She is inspired by the actresses of the movie posters of the 1950s and 60s. These pieces are almost blueprints of the female form. I strongly recommend heading to her page on the gallery website to see better images of her work (I suggest this in general but specifically here.

This is all about the pressure on women to look a certain way; to meet unattainable ideals.

Da Xiang Art Space (Taichung, Taiwan) showed work by Keng JieSheng, Low Kimchit and Zhang Yu at Context Miami 2014.

Keng's work was one that drew a great deal of spectator attention. When I passed by a couple times there were always several people peering at that ghostly hand.

Low's piece use traditional method and materials mixed with modern elements--it is acrylic, Chinese ink and rice paper.

Zhang's piece needs a closer look as is actually made up of fingerprints. It is made of Xuan paper and plant pigment. This is also rice paper used for both writing and art.
