The exhibit focused on making art from recycled objects. Nine artists from the area will participate. The title of the exhibit is taken from the 1964 book, The Anxious Object, by the late Harold Rosenberg. Rosenberg wrote about artists of the day and their anxiety over the truth “worth” of their art.
This exhibit sort of posits that your art cannot be junk because, in fact, JUNK IS ART. All the art in this show is made of found objects that the artists re-purpose. There is something (and this is me talking here not the Bridgeport Art Center) working class about recycled art. I think of what the object in the photo below was before--what its purpose was and it just seems right for the south side of Chicago.
