Steve Greene's Buzzing In My Ears opens at frosch&portmann (53 Stanton Street, NYC) Thursday, April 18, 2013. The exhibit runs until May 26. Greene's work may not literally buzz in your ears but the imagery of sound is pervasive in his recent work (be they collage or drawing). Noise or silence, sound or its absence feature in his diagrammatic, abstract, list-based work.
It is an interesting approach because what art is there that is judged, sensed by only one sense? We see, we hear, we feel different forms of art but when we see, that sight can evoke the sonic and when we hear something it is just as likely to call to mind an image.
This exhibition is Greene's fourth solo show in NYC and his first featuring works on paper. The Arkansas-born artist lives in NYC these days and recieved his BFA from Pratt.
