Sperone Westwater (New York) showed work by Wim Delvoye at Art Basel Miami Beach 2018.
There are numerous works at Art Basel that draw a crowd (often work part of the Kabinett). This one, even early in the day drew a crowd which is understandable. It is big, it is intricate and it mixes metaphors.
D 11 Scale Model 2.0 is part bulldozer and part cathedral which is bound to make even the least curious members of homo sapiens stop to ponder. The piece is lasar cut stainless steel.
Delvoye, born in Belgium, now lives and works in the U.K. His work was notably show at the Vienna Biennale in 1990 and 99. His piece, Cloaca, was also a hit in New York in 2002. Cloaca was the name of the ancient sewer of Rome. The artist's Cloaca was a sort of feces making machine. Who isn't interest in poop? It is a concern from the cradle to the grave.
