Palabras de Arena Segura Arts Studio (South Bend, IN) showed work by Claudia Bernardi at Ink Miami 2014. Segura Arts Studio was founded in 1981 in Arizona by Joe Segura and was acquired by the University of Notre Dame around three years ago (2012).
The aim of the studio upon its founding remains the same; making significant but affordable art available to collectors who cannot write a million dollar check. The smaller of these two pieces (Palabras de Arena) was selling for $1000 while the larger (Agenda del al Mujer Atenta) was selling for $4000.
Bernardi is an artist who works for social justice and human rights. It so often seems that many of the best artists these days also work to advance the cause of human rights. Bernardi has worked in collaborative projects with people who have suffered from state terror. She has worked around the world with anthropologists unearthing mass graves.
