This is the sixth installment in Birk's American Qur'an series. The project, which will in the end last five years, has Birk translating the Qur'an into English and illustrating each sura with a scene from every day American life. The idea is to ground the holy text in American life--to show how familiar the teachings in the book are. Throughout the project Birk looks into the similarities between Judaism, Christianity and Islam.
The gallery will also premiere a recent print by the artist, Monument to the United Nations Declaration of Human Rights, 2013.
