I was drawn to Martinez' work because I am not entirely certain what it means. There is something inscrutable in the statement. Inscrutable is good and I feel no need for furthr edification
Hayward and Nesbit's work seem to be as much about texture as color to me. The former is oil on canvas on wood panels and the latter is acrylic and dye on burlap. Hayward's work is three dimensional. Nesbit's seems as if it is (and the photo doesn't show this clearly. You can see in the detail piece how the yellow lays over top the piece.
Again, these pieces succeed for me in a purely aesthetic way and I neeed no explanations (although, no doubt they exist).
