The program, upon its original airing on Palestiniann Radio Amwaj, had Rakowitz dissecting the break up of the band interspersed with historical events. Many of the listeners would have been waiting at checkpoints on their way hope. Not sure this would have made their drive time more bearable but hopefully more interesting.
This is Rakowitz' first solo exhibition with the gallery and the third voicing of The Breakup. The first was the radio program, second an exhibition in New York and the third this exhibition.
Rakowitz is an Iraqi-American artist currently based in both New York and Chicago. He is a professor in the Department of Art Theory and Practice at Northwestern University.
