Petzel (New York) showed work by Maria Lassnig and Jorge Pardo at Art Basel Miami Beach 2018.
Lassnig was a trail-blazing artist. She was from Austria and mostly lived and worked there. Lassnig studied at the Vienna Fine Arts Academy and also spent time abroad in Paris and New York. She studied animation at the School of Visual Arts (when she was in her 50s). She was the first woman to be a professor of panting in the German speaking countries. This is just a tiny scratch on the surface of her career. If you happen to be in Vienna in 2019? Take time to visit the exhibit of her work at The Albertina Museum beginning September 6, 2019.
Pardo , from Havana, is a sculptor and painter who often makes a cameo in his work (at least the paintings). Bright, cheery colors predominate in his work that also has other bits of whimsy such as LED lights (see below). His pieces may be large scale installation-like works, furniture or paintings incorporating other media. You can seem more of his work at www.jorgepardosculpture.com.
