
If they creep you out a little that might be because they are based (this series) on 19th century photos of dead children. It was traditional to take photos of dressed up children who had passed away. Seems macabre now, but it was not seen that way at the time.
In a way Dou is intersecting past and present here, in a subtle way, that only very few people will ever notice or understand (I wouldn't have except the young woman from the gallery explained it to me).
