Monica Jahan Bose's artistic debut in Philadelphia takes place beginning 5:30 p.m. Sunday, October 25, 2015 at the Urban Center Annex to the Westphal College of Media Arts and Design at Drexel University, 3401 Filbert St, Philadelphia.
The piece, Rising, is curated by Twelve Gates Gallery. The piece is about climate change and sea level rise. Bose will be assisted by Shaam-e-Ali Nayeem. The piece includes a 216 foot sari, water and video projections. The saris, and video, used are from the ongoing Storytelling With Saris, a long term collaboration with twelve woman from coastal Bangladesh who have been displaced by climate change.
Other artists will be presented including Shahzia Sikander, Sumit Baudh and Qasim Riza Shaheen.
