Mayoral Galeria D'Art (Barcelona) showed these works by Joaquín Torres García and Jean-Michel Basquiat at Art Miami 2014.
García was a Uruguayan artist of Catalan descent whose work embodied his artistic philosophy--Universal Constructivism. He wanted art to incorporate human experience. In addition to painting he worked in stained glass (something that seems appropriate looking at the painting here, Arte constructivo con sol y estrellas.
Basquiat was a street artist before the current wave of street artists picked up a crayon. His work incorporates numerous media (in this case oil sticks, acrylic and collage). His untimely death robbed the world of a truly great talent--the world needed more Basquiat pieces in it. His death also denied the New York City Police Department of another potential victim.
