Photographs by Brandt from three different series (Dust, La Brea and Clippings) are brought together for Excavations. Brandt uses vastly different technologies in a work blending processes. Pieces show the remains of prehistoric animals, dust particles or magnified details of a newspaper clip.
This is the artist's second solo show with the gallery. His first solo museum exhibit, Matthew Brandt sticky/dusty/wet, is currently at the Columbus Museum of Art and will travel to the Virginia Museum of Contemporary Art soon. His work is held in permanent collections at the Met the Getty, Brooklyn Museum, Los Angeles County Museum and many more. He attended Cooper Union (BFA) and UCLA (MFA). He lives in Los Angeles.
