Porterfield amasses hundreds of figures to depict scenes from nature--which symblize events beyond her control. Many of these created situations mirror her work as an occupational therapist. Ultimately she is asking; what makes an act heroic? Is it selflessness? Is it fighting futility? Or is it selfishness and acceptance?
She holds a MFA from Arizona State University and currently teaches at Northeastern Illinois University. Her work has been show around the USA in group exhibitions. This is her second show witht the gallery.
