Russian-born Julia Kuhl has a solo exhibition, Do You Love Me?, opening Thursday, October 25, 2012 at frosch&portmann (53 Stanton Street,New York). This is the artist's first solo exhibition with the gallery. The exhibit runs until December 9, 2012.
Even though she was born in Russia Kuhl grew up in New York. Her exhibition title refers to a Nick Cave song and the drawings are based on photos. Some of the photos are hers and others are pictures of or by friends. But even considering this Kuhl mixes history and myth into the original images once she has made them "hers."
