John Stezaker's collage works, with found paintings were part of Art Basel's Kabinett.
Stezaker is best known for his work in the 1950s where he used photomontage and collage. He rotated, obstructed and cut pieces. In a sense "vandalizing" the work. His use of the technique goes a hair beyond Joan Miro's mutilation of his own paintings.
These pieces are from Stezaker's latest series, Tears. The series' name requires no explanation. It is interesting how his subtractions from these pieces disrupt their original intent.
