John McAllister’s Duskbright Bellows is at Richard Telles Fine Art, 7380 Beverly Blvd, Los Angeles from May 12 to June 16, 2012. There will be an opening reception Saturday May 12 from 5 to 7 p.m.
This is McAllister’s first solo exhibit with the gallery. He has previously had solo exhibitions at James Fuentes LLC, New York and at Ribordy Contemporary, Geneva in 2011. He has also appeared in group exhibits at David Kordansky Gallery, Los Angeles. His work is in numerous significant collections. He lives in Brooklyn.
The release lists influences ranging from Matisse to Frank Stella (with a nod to Bonnard as well). He often employs pictures within pictures. Curiously he also does no studies. His work is from scratch. And do not be fooled by the list of “influences” he channels none of these in a direct way.
