RARE is showing new paintings by Jim Wright in an exhibit entitled, Tolerable Barbarians from February 10 through March 10. This is Wright’s fourth solo show at Rare.
There is an opening reception from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday, February 10 at 547 W. 27th St #514, New York City.
This new series is of six paintings. Wright focus is the concept of originality via art history and the juxtaposition of historical images and his own. But this is as much commentary of the new trend of “sampling” as it is part of that trend. Wright is making comment on all the “begging, borrowing and stealing” from old masters that goes on in art today.
