Creatures of Saintly Disguise 2012
Jennybird Alcantara’s Creatures of Saintly Disguise, a solo exhibition of new work, begins at Varnish Fine Art, 16 Jessie St., #C120 San Francisco, on June 9. The work is a surreal mix of critters and plants and fairytales and a sort of ongoing story woven by Alcantara. I have seen her work here and there and it always stops me.
This exhibition will have some large oil works by the artist in addition to her usual, smaller fare.
There will also be a reception, with the artist, from 6 to 9 p.m. on Saturday June 9. I wish I could go and ask her to paint stuff from MY favorite fairytales. This is the artist’s second show with the gallery and it focuses on the “saints” in Alcantara’s world.
The artist received her BFA from the San Francisco Art Institute. Her work has been exhibited in the USA and Europe and you may have seen it in number of the more interesting art magazines; Hi Fructoz, Juxtapoz, Raw Vision, Art Doll Quarterly etc.
You should see this exhibit. Buy a painting. You can afford it.
