Giants and Gentility, new sculptures by Santiago Cal runs at Rare Gallery (547 W. 27 St. #514 , New York), October 16 to November 13, 2014. There will be an opening reception from 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday, October 16.
Cal, from Nebraska, is making his solo debut in NYC. His painted wood scupltures began last year with his series, 40 Rings. He mixes global events with personal memories and family history. It is an interesting approach because this is really how we experience global events. People remember significant pieces of global history by connecting them to what they were doing when the event occurred.
