Galerie Kornfeld (Berlin) showed work by Martin Spengler at Expo Chicago 2019.
Spengler, born in Cologne, creates these three dimensional pieces out of cardboard, gesso, graphite, marker and wood. At a quick glance these pieces almost seem concrete.
The artist lives and works in Munich, although one of the pieces here is of Chicago's well known Marina Towers. The buildings often seem to be the subject, or backdrop, for art but rarely 3D art. You can almost imagine a car driving into the river from that Steve McQueen movie.
