There is something in Alex Schaefer's Chase, Los Feliz that captures the tenor of the times. It wasn't entirely clear this painting was intended as a political statement or simply the image of an accidental fire.
Art is always open to interpretation. Then I found this article. Schaefer is not only an artist but an agent provocateur, albeit a sort of unintentional one. He intends to provoke but not via arson.
Beyond that this eye catching painting uses fire to create motion, to make the work dangerous. If there were no fire here you could hang this in the bank lobby. Light it up and the artist gets visited by the police. Clever work by Schaefer.
Likewise clever, eye-catching work, is the below sculptures from Richard Kraft. Kraft hails from London and works in Los Angeles. I could try to explain Kraft but I really didn't look as closely at his work as I should have. I go into a trance sometime. He can explain himself eloquently however. Look HERE.
