Kendrick is from Boston and lives and works in New York City. His work has been shown since the early 1970s and he has been the recipient of numerous awards. This piece, Blue Holes, is mahogany and Japan blue color. There is something hypnotic and complicated in the sculpture. While this piece is wood Kendrick also works in bronze, paper, rubber and even concrete. His work is included in museum collections including the Whitney, the Museum of the Art Institute of Chicago, High Museum of Art, Storm King Art Center, National Gallery of Art and 20 or so other major collections. It truly is an amazing list. You can find out more at www.melkendrick.com. Bremer takes everyday photos and recreates them via retouching, enlargement and other forms of magic. Or maybe it just seems like magic. They are lovely, gripping small pieces. Bremer currently lives and works in New York City. His work is included in the collections of museums such as the Victoria and Albert Museum (London) and the Museum of Modern Art (NYC). ExpoProjects showed "The War We Won" by Roger Brown at Expo Chicago 2017. The piece was created in 1991 and shows the iconic figures in the downfall of European communism. The piece is courtesy of Kavi Gupta Gallery (Chicago).
Brown wrote in his notebook; "We won the war against Communism but lost the battle of Vietnam." He was also the man behind the monolithic painting Oral Roberts Vision of a Two Mile High Jesus. Jane Lombard Gallery (New York) showed work by Sarah Dwyer at Expo Chicago 2017. The gallery was formerly known as Lombard Freid Projects. They work with both emerging and mid-career artists. Templon (Paris) showed this untitled piece by Sudarshan Shetty at Expo Chicago 2017. The work is made from recycled teak and is a one of a kind piece. Shetty lives in Mumbai and was born in Mangalore. He began as a painter and moved into sculpture and installation. He now works totally in this area and often creates mechanized pieces. Shetty's pieces question the mixing of Western and Indian traditions in art. He was also a Ford Foundation Fellow at the New School for General Studies (New York. Alan Koppel Gallery (Chicago) Showed "The Deluge II" By Dexter Dalwood At Expo Chicago 20179/15/2017 Alan Koppel Gallery (Chicago) showed The Deluge II by Dexter Dalwood at Expo Chicago 2017. Dalwood is a London-based painter and former punk rock musician. He is a professor of art and design at Bath Spa University. There is something about the uneveness of this painting that makes it unnerving or maybe it is just all the recent devastating flood around the world. Anat Ebgi (Los Angeles) Showed Work By Alec Egan At Expo Chicago 2017--Art For Book Lovers9/15/2017 Anat Ebgi (Los Angeles) showed work by Alec Egan at Expo Chicago 2017. His work is art for book lovers. These books have no titles on them; you can imagine them as novels, diaries, or sketchebooks piled upon each other. Some of the pieces show the books in a larger setting but they are still what matters in the image. Egan is based in Los Angeles and he uses imagery in a repetitive ways. The wallpaper, books and green wall hanging all appear in the pieces and he uses similar tactics in his other work. Roberto Paradise (San Juan) Showed Work By Robert Nava And Omar Velazquez At Expo Chicago 20179/15/2017 Roberto Paradize (San Juan) showed work by Robert Nava and Omar Velazquez at Expo Chicago 2017. The alligator piece is, no doubt, one of the more eye catching paintings at this fair. Nava is from East Chicago, Indiana. He has a BFA from Indiana University Northwest (Gary) and an MFA from Yale. Velasquez received his BFA in printmaking from Universidad de Puerto Rico. His work is often collage and mixed media. There is a quality that almost makes you think of stop-action animation in the pieces below. |
