Hyland is a Los Angeles-based artist that has been a frequent subject of posts at Mapanare. Pieces by her were, in some ways, the inspiration for this site continuing. You can read an early interview with her HERE. There is actually a video of my first siting of her work that you can see HERE (this painting is still one of my favorite pieces).
Hyland considers these pieces to be more commercial than her usual work but I considered them something different--inspirational, pieces that would be, without the words, compelling examinations of color. When I spoke to her and went on her reaction indicated that perhaps I missed the point so I will not give further opinion.
I will say that she told me these pieces required meticulousness; one misstep in painting a word, one blot and the painting was ruined. Think of that when you ruminate on the messages and color here. There is a great deal beneath the surface of Hyland's work. Her art always comes from a profound place; what she views as commercial is something that provokes thought in a way no commercial art I come across ever does.
