Bethany Collins Undersong runs September 15 to October 27, 2018 at Patron Gallery (673 N. Milwaukee Ave.,Chicago). There will be an opening reception from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday, September 15.
Collins' work in Undersong makes use of three different texts in her work; a translation of The Odyssey, advertisements placed by former slaves searching for missing family and patriotic hynms. Through "vocalization"--all these texts were devoid of power unless read aloud--these texts become the undersong, the song's burden.
