Cannella emerged in the 1970s as part of the New Roman School and the Roman Gruppo di San Lorenzo. He started in mixed
media but moved into painting. His work often shows stand alone images rendered in thick paint. This piece does not come across in this photo. It seems more evenly painted than it is, less nuanced. It needs to be seen in person to be appreciated.
