Hans Hofmann, born in Germany, studied art in both Germany and France before moving to the United States in the 1930s. He taught art at University of California at Berkeley and at the Art Students League. He opened the Hans Hofmann School of Fine Arts in 1933 (in New York).
His work—during his lifetime—was exhibited worldwide and currently is found in many prominent museums featuring modern art (I use the small “m” here deliberately).
