This new collection of paintings from the Nebraska-based artist is is fourth solo show with Rare. The exhibit includes 12 paintings that use 19th century references; politicians, poets, visionaries and landmarks.
In part this direction came from the artist doing a residency in Nebraska City, where he realized he was at the beginning of the historic Oregon Trail. Holz read up on the move West and all that this push wound up imbedded in American society. The pieces have something of a surreal quality.
