They will be at booth A17. An Installation By Piet Hein Eek By Ruinart Champagne, Presented At Art Basel, Miami Beach.11/15/2013 Ruinart Champagne is one of a number of companies sponsporing exhibits and installations during Art Week in Miami. Theirs is by designer Piet Hein Eek and celebrates the company's partnership with Art Basel, December 5 to 8, 2013. Ruinart will also showcase limited edtion champagne boxes. Both will be on display at Art Basel Miami Beach. In the 18th century champagne was apparently shipped in baskets. Ruinart broke with this tradition and switched to boxes in the latter part of the century. Eek creates individual storage cases fit to the shape of a Ruinart Blanc de Blancs bottle. Each is indivually created, signed and numbered. The work is meticulous down to the wood and laquers chosen. Thes boxes will be shown next to the installaton, an arch full of Ruinart bottles. Eek, from Holland, is a designer with a focus on the use of wood. He has been worked in the medium for over 20 years. He is a graduate of the Design Academy in Eindhoven and is known mainly for sustainable furniture designs. He also creates lights and accessories. These champagne boxes will be on sale at Knightsbridge and Plum Market. I need to stop writing about this. It is making me want to drink Ruinart Champagne, which I cannot currently afford. It is also 9 a.m. If you are attending Art Week events (in South Florida everyone calls the whole thing "Art Basel") Scope is always one of the fairs to be sure to see. In the past it has been held in Miami nearby Art Miami/Context, Red Dot, Project Miami and not too far from Pulse. This year Scope has moved to Miami Beach (1000 Ocean Drive at 10th St.). Like many of the fairs during Art Week in Miami/Miami Beach, Scope has musical and other performances as part of their offerings to art enthusiasts and buyers. Among this year's events is the VH1 and Scope hosted ART + Music + Beach at Scope's new digs on Miami Beach. Their December 6, 2013 opening features a performance by Tegan and Sara a will as DJ Cassidy. This is by invite only. In addition to this night's performance there will be 100 international exhibitors, 15 Breeder Program galleries, numerous curated projects, sponsor programs and Platinum VIP tours. The first VIP event is the Monday VIP Opening Monday December 2 (free for Platinum VIP cardholders, by invitation or with a $150 donation to the Mourning Family Foundation). The fair shows contemporary art by well known artists but have a stronger representation of emerging artists than some other fairs. Find all those details on the Scope website. Specifically look for the exhibitor list HERE. Some visitors who are not serious collectors find Art Basel itself too expensive to get in and too massive to go through. It also isn't a place to go for even moderately wealthy folks to buy art. The same is somewhat true of Art Miami. Scope, while certainly not "chock full of bargains" does, as noted, have some galleries showing work from emerging artists. NOW, that term sometimes gets used on artists whose work seems to have emerged ages ago. But at Scope there are legitimately artists who are not well known in the general or art worlds but who, in many cases, soon will be. If you are in town for Art Week go to Scope. Art Basel Miami Beach has announced the galleries particpating in the 12 Miami Beach edition. There will be 258 of the world's top galleries--from 31 countries and five continents. As usual work ranges from Modern masters to contemporary artists. This year's faire tapes place December 5 to 8, 2013 This year will see a number of newer American galleries showing for the first time in the show. To see the complete list head HERE. |
