The Thing are releasing BOOT!, their latest LP on their brand spanking new label, The Thing Records on November 5, 2013. The new record is their sixth studio effort (they have several live releases too). The ban are a sort of odd mix of jazz and garage--an odd combination. You may recall their collaboration with Neneh Cherry, The Cherry Thing, released in 2012.
This release was recorded in three days and exemplifies the band's punk meets jazz with a dash of Ethiopian music, soul and..of course...noise. The members of the band have collaborated with a who's who of rock and jazz musicians including Pat Metheny, Sonic Youth, Merzbow, Jim O'Rourke and many others.
