TFDI is a trio made up of three singer songwriters--Tony Lucca, Matt Duke and Jay Nash…Oh, wait, it says that in the headline. The trio are heading out on tour. Dammit…That is in the headline too. What else is there to say?
The tour will be in mid-sized venues with 18 stops from coast to coast. Riley Etheridge Jr. opens on the Western dates and Benny Marchant on the Eastern ones. TFDI are also not just touring for the heck of it. They are supporting their July release, When I Stop Running. There will also be a chance to chat with Lucca and Duke on a webcast, Thursday, August 4 at 8 p.m. EST at www.vokle.com. The record was recorded at SPACE in Evanston. Unsurprisingly the collective will also play their on this tour. For more info head to www.tfditour.com. No, I have never heard of it either but I am sure it is nice. The band are getting ready to release their first ep, Pre-Columbians, on September 13, 2011. And this is a band that can really sing about youth. As they are all around 16 years old. Some of them can even drive by themselves.
The band will be an in-studio performance at Philadelphia’s Radio 104.5 at 5 p.m. on September 23. It will be streaming at www.radio1045.com/main.html. They are playing a few shows too, check them out below. Shows Aug 04 River Common Amphitheatre - Wilkes-Barre, PA Aug 16 Tammany Hall - New York, NY Aug 25 River Street Jazz Café - Wilkes-Barre, PA Sep 01 The Fire - Philadelphia, PA (headlining show with Santah and Ocean Is Theory) Neon Hitch's has a new video of her cover of Wiz Khalifa's On My Level. The video was shot in Chinatown in NYC and is, well, kind of cool. I do not have much else to say about this except that you should take a few minutes and watch it. Neon Hitch's debur record is coming soon on Warner. Geoffrey O’Connor of Crayon Fields first solo record, Vanity is Forever, is coming out September 27. You can check out a track, Whatever Leads Me To You, in advance via Soundcloud (below). He says you can post this, like it, tweet it or do whatever you will with it to help spread the word.
So get to it. You can also check out another track , Now and Then, HERE. Candy Hearts have joined the stable of Brooklyn label, Kind Of Like Records. The band will be releasing Everything’s Amazing And Nobody’s Happy on September 27. Who was the comedian who did that bit? Louis CK I believe. I am putting his piece below. I have no idea if this bit was the impetus for the band titling their CD this but it should have been. But back to music. Candy heards are also heading out on a few dates with Mixtapes and tossing in some solo shows too. One of these is label showcase and all of them are listed below. You can download a free copy of the band's previous record, Ripped Dreams And Silly Dreams HERE. You can donate to them there too. I suggest you do so (cheapskate). Chuck Ragan’s Covering Ground comes out September 13 (CD, vinyl and with some limited edition stuff you can find out about HERE. You can also download a track, Nomad By Fate, free at Ragan's website.
This is Ragan’s third record and he has toured all over the place for years. This year’s tour dates will begin after playing at Dropkick Murphys’ first Shamrock-N-Roll Festival at Fenway Park. I am sure there will be no drinking going on THAT night. The early part of his tour is apparently a tour of the Shamrock-n- Roll thing with Dropkick Murphys, Street Dogs and others. The tour that follows, The Revival Tour will feature Ragan, Dan Andriano (Alkaline Trio), Dave Hause (The Loved Ones) and Brian Fallon (Gaslight Anthem) all playing acoustic. Ragan wrote the record while on tour and he considers them to be “road songs.” Good long tradition of that. Check out the dates below. The fest takes place at Eckhart Park in Chicago (at Chicago Ave and Noble). Kids are welcome. It isn’t all about the music, although with bands like School of Seven Bells, Sidi Toure, Dark Dark Dark, Shellac, Fool’s Gold, A Hawk And A Hacksaw, Bomba Estereo, Dan Deacon, A Lull, Charls Bradley, Cave and more, you can consider it a pretty solid music fest.
But there will be lots of other stuff: circus performers, craft fair, farmers market, comedians, short films, carnival rides and more. Access to event grounds will be free and open to the public and for the shows there will be two large big top circus tents. Their latest, Howl of the Lonely Crowd, comes out October, 4, 2011 on What’s Your Rupture. The record was recorded and produced by the Edwyn Collins and Ryan Jarman (The Cribs). There was also some production work done by Brian O’Shaughnessy (My Bloody Valentine). I don’t always note producers, even when they are provided. But in this case? Pretty significant names and not folks who have been involved in very much crappy music.
There are a slew of musicians who guest on the record who are quite notable as well. You can find out those details when you buy the recording. Check out the track, An Arcade From The Warm Rain That Falls above. Murderous Joy Over the weekend I received a note about posting the track, Murderous Joy, by Carter Tanton. He used to refer to himself as Tulsa (fair enough, I used to refer to myself as “Palatka”) and is now a member of a neat band, Lower Dens (they are playing around with Cass McCombs now).
Tanton has been featured in numerous publications, worked with all sorts of people and now that Mapanare has found him can superstardom be far behind? Of course not. We hope he sends tickets when he plays Soldier Field. His new record, Freeclouds, comes out November 15th on Western Vinyl and he also will be touring with The War On Drugs. His record includes vocals by Marissa Nadler. I should be working on posting photos I took of the lovely Nadler right NOW. |
Constantly Consuming Culture--The Waterfront show crowdfunding effort now live. Shows in Miami and Chicago. Help us out. You can own the painting above.
