The Joy Formidable, Straight Outta Wales Bitches, Releasing Single,Touring Europe & North America.9/30/2010 The Joy Formidable, who you may have seen on here a few months ago, have premiered the video for their new single, I Don’t Want To See You Like This, which hits the streets October 12. You can preorder the 7” now I (again! with the 7” records!). The band’s first full length, Big Roar, is due in 2011. Preorder the single at the band website, www.thejoyformidable.com. In the meantime they are heading out on an ambitious tour of Europe and North America. The video was shot in Wales' Gower Peninsula in what was, apparently, exceptionally miserable weather. The Tour in Europe is going on now and North American dates commends November 3 in Toronto. Full list of dates is on the band website. Rewards is another project from Aaron Pfenning of Chairlift. They are heading out on tour with Brandon Flowers of The Killers and We Are Scientists. In fact, I think they are already technically on tour.
Apparently Rewards has been everything from a solo thing to a five piece band. Not sure what the tour is going to be. I guess you are just going to have to show up and find out. Pfenning is supporting his soon to be released 7” (what is with all the 7” records?) and full length. Songs from both will be played. Merriment will be had! Personally I am curious about Brandon Flowers solo stuff. So there you go. Get out to the shows. Check out the track I Used To at Stereogum. For tour dates hit the Rewards Myspace Page. Kings of Leon are scheduling shows for November in New York, New Jersey and Boston. These are the only Kings of Leon will be playing in the USA this year. Their new album , Come Around Sundown, comes out October 19 so I expect they will be touring next year sometime stateside. But if you CANNOT wait be sure to get to one of these. The first single, Radioactive, is already a hit.
Shows November 14 in Boston at TD Garden November 16 in New York City at Madison Square Garden November 18 in East Rutherford at Izod Center. Dead Leaf Echo are playing a series o shows in the East, including CMJ shows opening for Chapterhouse (Chapterhouse are touring for the first time in 15 years). Dead Leaf Echo are releasing their latest, Truth, on October 12. They also have a 7 “ single coming out, Half-Truth (I sense a theme). The first 100 hand numbered with hand screened covers…get one so when this band is as big as U2 you can sell it and buy a Bentley.
Dead Leaf Echo Tour Dates Oct 3 -The Bell House - Brooklyn, NY w/Chapterhouse Oct 9 - The Delancey - NY, NY w/ The Prids Oct 23 - Spike Hill - Brooklyn, NY CMJ - The Deli Showcase Oct 23 - Vaudeville Park - Brooklyn, NY CMJ Nov 13 - Deep Heaven Fest - Boston, MA Check out Half-Truth" on the band’s website. Heart is Strange (Active Child remix of School of Seven Bells)Active Child and School of Seven Bells (whose new record is pretty darned good) are collaborating on a 7” vinyl release. Each of the bands is remixing the other’s track. The vinyl will be mixed colors with no two alike and you can get it on October 26. If you preorder now you can get both tracks as digital downloads.
The two are also out on tour together. Dates and locations are on the band websites: www.sviib.com and activechildmusic.com. Preorder the single HERE. Listen to the Active Child Remix of School of Seven Bells’ Heart is Strange above. Gang of Four are releasing a new record, Content, in January 2011 but you can hear a free track, Never Pay For The Farm, at the link below. It sounds pretty good to me. How often to bands get back together after years apart and make anything worth listening to? Sure it happens but not often.
They are also having a remix content at their website so check that out too at www.gangoffour.co.uk. You can listen to the track or download by trading your email address at www.reverbnation.com/tunepak/2929657 Content is coming out January 25th on Yep Roc. In The NightOn October 27 Gary Wilson will take the stage with The Roots on the Jimmy Fallon show. The freaky funk-jazz meister has also made a track from his upcoming lp release, Electric Endicott, available to fans. The track is In The Night and you can hear it above.
If you are heading to CMJ you can also catch Wilson live, October 19 at Cake Shop. The above mentioned Electric Endicott comes out digitally October 26 and has a physical release date of November 9 (on Western Vinyl). Rough BoysFive O’Clock Heroes have a new record coming next year but they are giving an advance preview NOW. You can check out the track, Rough Boys, above. The odd thing about this NY band is that while they are based HERE, their music has only been released overseas. Both 2006’s Bend to the Breaks and 2007’s Speak Your Language, were released only in Europe. The new record, Different Times, was recorded in five days with Grammy winning engineer Gus Oberg, who as worked with bands such as The Strokes. Sounds like it might have been an expensive recording session. This record is designed as a USA release. The band will also be playing a series of shows, one of which will be at the Mercury Lounge in NYC on November 5, 2010. Front Line Assembly are heading out on tour for the first time since 2007 in support of Improvised. Electronic. Device. The tour begins on Halloween (SPOOOOKY) in Seattle (not SPOOOOKY). There will be several interesting support acts including ANGELSPIT, Raggedy Angry and Unter Null.
The album allegedly includes some genre switching (I have not heard it) including electronic, dark metal and ambient music. They also do an medley of showtunes, mostly stuff from Oklahoma! Front Line Assembly first appeared in 1986 when Bill Leeb left Skinny Puppy and the band has been an ever changing cog in the great wheel of industrial rock ever since. For info on the tour or the latest record (released in June) go to www.frontlineassembly.com |
