Frederik, A Band Not A Guy, Are Releasing Their 3rd CD

Frederik, a trio from Sweden are releasing Flora, their third full length recording on March 29, 2011. The record comes out on The Kora Records. The band also recently released an ep, Origami,which you can get online or as part of a limited edition series of 7 inches released (also on The Kora Records).

Frederik Hultin and O. Lindefelt began as a duo but recently added Anna Moberg for Origami.

The track above is Dance of the Peacock to let all you stateside folks know about them. This is especially true of those of you who hail from Austin, Texas (or even those of you who plan to head that way for SXSW). The band will perform there in 2011.

Terrible Things features Fred Mascherino of Taking Back Sunday, Josh Eppard of Coheed and Cambria and Andy Jackson of Hot Rod Circus. So we are talking a sort of supergroup. But not like Asia.

Empress Hotel Releasing EP In March, On Tour, Now, Free Track Here

Bells Ring

Straight out of New Orleans, Empress Hotel are coming out with an eponymous EP on Park the Van. The Record comes out March 8, 2011. The band’s core is brothers Ryan and Eric Rogers. Eric Rogers hit the roads with a slew of other bands and Ryan Rogers stayed at the homestead writing and recording with Micah McKee. These recordings let to Empress Motel. The band is rounded out with Patrick Hodgkins (bass), Leo DeJesus (keyboards/percussion) and Julie Williams (keyboards).

The band are already on tour with the next being in New Orleans on New Years Eve.

The Joy Formidable, Who You Really Should Hear, Have A New CD Coming Out March, 15, 2011

The Joy Formidable are a super new band. I was supposed to interview them at a recent Chicago show but I managed to screw it up somehow. I am not very bright. I need a secretary or a date book. Next time they come through here they will be at a big venue and will tell me to get BENT if I ask for an interview.

Anyway....

The band have a new record, The Big Roar, coming out on Canvasback/Atlantic on March 15 (aren't you supposed to BEWARE the Ides of March?). The video below id a track from the record. The Welsh band played their first shows on this side of the Atlantic (ocean) a year ago to support their EP.

The EP, A Balloon Called Morning, was put out by Passion Pit’s Ayad Al Adhamy’s Black Bell Records. I heard songs off this and I was hooked. They are unique, interesting and I really wish I had done that damned interview. The band produced this recording themselves and you should be sure to give a listen to them when you get the chance.

Eye of a Needle

Floating Action, named after a drum pedal, is the nom de plume of Seth Kauffman, a North Carolina-based musician and producer. This is an act that is all over the place. Eclectic is putting it mildly. The press release says they run the gamut from folk to soul to gospel to surf and southern rock.

Floating Action’s latest is Desert Etiquette and comes out on Park the Van. He has two previous efforts with the label. All of Kaufmann’s music is by him in every way you can think of. Damn, I just ended a sentence with a preposition Check out a track above.

The record comes out February 22 and you can see the band at SXSW and on your later in the year.

Yellowcard Finishing New Record And Worldwide Tour

Yellowcard by Adam Elmakias

Yellowcard just completed the recording of their latest effort, When You’re Through Thinking, Say Yes. They are now burning the midnight oil getting ready for UK, Asian and North American tour dates.

The USA dates begin in March and you can see the complete dates by clicking on the band’s name above. Some people seem to not be able to figure out that I often link to band and label websites. I do.

Yellowcard will be out in supporting fellow Hopeless Records signees, All Time Low.

The new Yellowcard record is slated for release March 22, 2011.

Help Animals & Get A Christmas Track From The Organ Beats

Love Animals? Love Christmas? Massachussetts-based The Organ Beats organized a multi-band Christmas song for Charity. The song is, This Christmas. Money raised will go to The Mission of the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals-Angell Animal Medical Center.

Ron Ragona (Spring Heeled Jack, Lost City Angels) and Nick Bacon (Lost City Angels, The Pilfers, Miss Derringer) added music to the track. You can get the song on The Organ Beats bandcamp page.
You can make a donation and download the track ($1 minimum) and the money goes directly to the charity.

Chamberlin Releasing Debut Record, Video Out Now

Chamberlin’s new video for the track, Turn Around, was shot with the help of 23 friends. This is pretty impressive considering most musicians don’t have 23 friends (after all, musicians always need to borrow cash and then they steal your girlfriend).

But not Chamberlin. I am sure they are stand up guys. The first record, Bitter Blood, comes out February 14, 2011 on Roll Call Records.

The video in question is shot in the Green Mountains near Goshen, Vermont and was shot on point and shoot cameras.

Sleepy Rebels A Very Sleepy Christmas Video & California Christmas Track

The Dears Have New Video From Mexico City & New CD in February

The Dears have a new video for their song Blood—featured below. The video is from the band’s recent shows in Mexico City in May, 2011. The track is from The Dears upcoming release, Degeneration Street, which comes out February 15 on Dangerbird Records.

The shows in Mexico featured the band playing the new record in its entirety.
