SO, if you are down with that? Head over to the label, Misanthropic Records’ myspace page for samples. The video below appears to be a practice space video so it probably isn’t true to their recorded sound. Brazilian Black Metal for all you black hearted bastards.
Eminent Shadow release their new CD, In the Fog of the Night…We Burn his Kingdom. As you might imagine this is not a Christian rock band. In fact, their label calles them a “traditional” death metal band who have released seven “morbid and brutal songs.” SO, if you are down with that? Head over to the label, Misanthropic Records’ myspace page for samples. The video below appears to be a practice space video so it probably isn’t true to their recorded sound. Brazilian Black Metal for all you black hearted bastards.

One of the many neat things they do is release split 7 inch records from cool bands. To wit, the released a split record for Of Montreal and Casiokids for Record Store Day earlier this year. Now they have a new split 7 inch with two tracks each from His Clancyness (aka Jonathan Clancy) and Shimmering Stars coming out October 31 ( via Insound in the USA and Rough Trade in UK). Both are Canadians, the former from Ottawa and the latter from Vancouver. His Clancyness plays a sort of dream pop and has, as yet, mainly releases 7 inch records and small limited releases of his music. Shimmering Stars say their influences come from 50s artists like Everly Brothers, Del Shannon and producer Phil Spector (they are Canadian so are probably less well armed than Spector). Their debut lp came out on Hardly Art in the USA and Almost Musique in Europe in September (not sure if this means NOW or last year). Splendour is a new label, founded this year and handling work by artists such as Casiokids, Of Montreal, Siinai, Brad Laner and more. The Sea and Cake are a band and also two of my favorite things. They are also on Chicago’s Thrill Jockey Records so you can be relatively sure that they are a) interesting and b) probably don’t suck. Their ninth record, The Moonlight Butterfly, came out a few months back as did a split 7 inch with Broken Social Scene. Check out a track, Up On The North Shore, below. Tour dates, beginning in South America, are below. I wish I could check them out in Santiago but I will likely have to settle for Chicago. I am not even going to try to hang a genre on this band. I Build Collapsible Mountains is Luke Joyce’s solo musical project. He doesn’t actually build collapsible mountains so far as we know. It would be a useful tourist attraction if he did though. You could ski in Florida. Of course, the snow would melt…but maybe you could ski on jello? Hmm, the jello might melt too. ANYWAY, I Build Collapsible Mountain’s debut record, The Spectator & The Act, comes out on October 11 via Burning Building Records. You can download the first single, Face of Thunder Grin, HERE. Joyce formerly fronted the band The Gothenburg Address. This is his second solo effort and his first to be released in the USA. Go download the track, listen, tell your friends, tell your ma and grab the full length when it comes out. Instrumental band, Remember Remember, have a new record, The Quickening, coming October 11. We may have mentioned this before but they are worth a couple of mentions! The band hail from Glasgow. The record will be out on Mogwai’s label, Rock Action Records. The animated video for the track, Scottish Widows, is below. |
