DJ Bob Ham asked about getting to know so many of the backers over the course of my nine crowdfunding campaigns. In the 90s, when Black Tape For A Blue Girl’s Remnants of a deeper purity was the most successful release on Projekt, the CDs shipped out to Projekt’s distributor, out into the void," he says. "I felt disconnected from the people who loved what I create. Now I know their names, and answer their questions. It was great selling 16,000 CDs back in the day, but it’s also great being directly in touch with people who value the art at $50 or even $500. That’s pretty great, too."

Like many btfbg records this one is a first person narrative of an individual in conflict.

"I see the characters in the seven songs as being at a point where something has to give, something has to change, they are sort of hitting a wall in life and they need to try to get beyond that. There’s also this other thematic idea: one of the song’s is Samsara, which is a Buddhist idea that life is a cycle where you come back again and again to live this existence and maybe you understand a little bit better how to get through life, or how to get out of the sorrow of life. I picture the photos I’m shooting with Mercy for the cover and art cards as displaying this characters coming back again and again."

The title, to Rosenthal, reflects a feeling of longing and hopefulness balanced agains the recognition of the absurdity of actually "touching the Milky Way."

You can help out with the Kickstarter HERE.

Jonathan Jackson + Enation To Release "Anthems For The Apocalypse" On July 14th; Limited Quantity Available For Pre-Order From Amazon Today For $4.00

https://www.mapanare.us/music/jonathan-jackson-enation-to-release-anthems-for-the-apocalypse-on-july-14th-limited-quantity-available-for-pre-order-from-amazon-today-for-400

https://www.mapanare.us/music/jonathan-jackson-enation-to-release-anthems-for-the-apocalypse-on-july-14th-limited-quantity-available-for-pre-order-from-amazon-today-for-400#comments

Uncategorized

by Sharon GissyJonathan Jackson + Enation are slated to release their fourth studio album, Anthems For The Apocalypse, co-produced by Greg Archilla (Matchbox 20, Collective Soul) July 14th on their own label, Hilasterion Records (distributed by Sony). The quarterly series which benefits the independent CHIRP Radio features six curated Chicagoans telling a thematic personal story and pairing it to be performed by series band The First Time Four. The First Time Four includes musicians Gerald Dowd, Steve Frisbie, Liam Davis, and Scott Stevenson. In addition to making their own music, the band has played with Mavis Staples, Eddie Vedder, and Robbie Fulks, among others, and earned a couple of Grammy nominations.

First Time features a diverse array of readers such as lawyers, sausage makers, broadcasters, chefs, non-profit leaders, and artists, but always at least one musician. Past readers have included Bill Ayers, Tony Fitzpatrick, Mindy Segal, Ben Jovarsky, and Len Kasper. The lineup for the July 12th show at Matrys' boasts a bill of actor Wes Needham, musician Natalie Grace Alford, musician/historian Steve Krakow aka Plastic Crimewave, creative director and editor Micki LeSueur, writer/comedian Dan Shapiro, and CHIRP's very own Marites Velasquez (also of local band Ovef Ow) reading stories of their "First Catch." The July 12th show will also include a raffle for a pair of "Hamilton" tickets for the August 22nd show. The show will run from 8:00 to 10:30 p.m. and tickets are $10.

For more details visit here.

The Wrecks Embark Upon "The Young Renegades" Tour; Play Aragon Ballroom On July 21st

https://www.mapanare.us/music/the-wrecks-embark-upon-the-young-renegades-tour-play-aragon-ballroom-on-july-21st

https://www.mapanare.us/music/the-wrecks-embark-upon-the-young-renegades-tour-play-aragon-ballroom-on-july-21st#comments

Uncategorized

by Sharon GissyThis summer Los Angeles alternative rock band The Wrecks will begin their "The Young Renegades" tour in support of their We Are The Wrecks EP. The five-piece of Nick Anderson (vocals), Aaron Kelley (bass), Nick Schmidt (guitar), Westen Weiss (guitar), and and Billy Nally (drums) recently recorded their three-song LP We Are The Wrecks in three days with less than a week as a band. The EP took off, featuring one of their best songs "Favorite Liar" which became a top 40 hit at Alternative Radio and garnered almost 5.5 million streams on Spotify. His soulful vocals, piano skills, and knack for self-composed songs with strong melodies and incisive lyrics has earned him recording credits with Bonnie Raitt and Ryan Adams among others, while his respected Crescent City contemporaries include New Orleans R&B legends such as Dr. John and Allen Touissant.

Offbeat Magazine says "His knowledge of R&B, funk, gospel, reggae, Cuban music—no one connects New Orleans to Cuba more suavely—and boogie-woogie is profound, leading to a splendid rhythmic freedom.
